Bioinformatics is an interdisciplinary field that develops methods and software tools for understanding biological data. As an interdisciplinary field of science, bioinformatics combines computer science, statistics, mathematics, and engineering to analyze and interpret biological data. It is a new emerging field that helps in collecting, linking, and manipulating different types of biological information to discover new biological insight. This programme is targeted towards imparting theoretical as well as practical knowledge of bioinformatics to the students. This Add on Career Oriented Course in Bioinformatics is UGC sponsored (XI Plan) Course and granted to the college in the year 2007-2008. After completion of the course participant is expected to have knowledge and better understanding of sequence analysis, prediction of protein structure, genome annotation, comparative genomics, health and drug discovery, microarray profiling. The curriculum has been designed to introduce the students to the various aspects of bioinformatics, its need and benefits in biological research.
The college is offering Certificate course at Semester I level and Diploma Course at Semester III level.
Mushroom farming is a biotechnological intervention of various lignocellulosic agro-wastes into proteins. Commercial mushroom cultivation involves low-cost, eco-friendly technology wherein locally available farm wastes are used as raw materials. Being a labour-intensive indoor activity, mushroom cultivation generates enough employment for unemployed youth and provides support to womenfolk and other weaker sections of the society. Mushrooms are well suited to supplement diets, which lack proteins and therefore they are righty called “vegetable meat”. Carbohydrate and fat contents of edible mushrooms are quite low. Owing to these attributes, they serve as a low-calorie diet recommended to heart patients. The course is aimed to teach cultivation and procuring of mushroom Harvesting mushroom crops and to develop marketing strategies for mushrooms. Keeping in view the climatic conditions of Bundelkhand region, cultivation of Oyster mushroom has been promoted since 2015.
